River Song Appreciation Day!

HAPPY RIVER SONG DAY!

dcwhoriverbow

Ok, I’m about three days late for posting this and be prepared, it’s about to get a tad nerdy up in this joint.

River Song is a character played by Alex Kingston on “Doctor Who”. Again, if you have never seen “Doctor Who” and are into the nerdy, space travel, british comedies then WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? Seriously, you need to GET ON THAT. Those of you who know of River Song and know me, know that I adore the hell out of that character/woman and is pretty much one of my goals in life to be as badass as she.

dcwhoomgFriday was the 5th Anniversary of River’s first appearance in “Silence in the Library”, an episode from season 4 with David Tennant and Catherine Tate as his “I’ll dish your sassiness right back to you” companion, Donna Noble (another favorite of mine!). Please be prepared if you watch this episode and it’s companion (ha, see what I did there?) because there are a lot of emotions. Seriously. Good luck with that.

Also, can we talk about the season finale?! Let’s talk about how I cried rivers of tears (ha, bah-dum-dum-psh!)… let’s talk about how I walked out into my living room and the conversation went like the following:

Dad: So, how was Doctor-

Me: OMG! *bursts into tears* RIVER! MY FEELS! RIVER AND THE DOCTOR! I JUST… I CAN’T! RIVER! NOOOOO! MY FEELS!

dcwhoriverspoilers

Anywho, I decided that since I couldn’t cosplay to work (even though it was casual Friday) and it would probably be highly inappropriate to walk around calling everyone “Sweetie”, or trying to use my sonic screwdriver when my stupid computer wouldn’t work (I actually have¬†two: River and the 10th’s) and saying “Spoilers” anytime anyone asked me where one of my reports were¬†(Seriously, I saw a very pink psychic paper in my future if I ever tried to pull this kind of shenanigan)… all of these under consideration, I decided to marathon River’s episodes and make a lovely decor piece in honor of our favorite woman with the funny name and the fantastic space hair.

DIY: Family Canvas Wall Decor

Happy Wednesday!

I’ve been a blogging slacker for the past few weeks. A few weeks ago I took a “staycation” and decided I was going to focus on me, myself and I. Unfortunately, the social media blogette¬†side of me also went on holiday and thus, the updates having been occurring regularly: including “Treasury Tuesday”, etc.

So, I missed Mother’s Day a few weeks ago. But I hope you all had a GREAT Mother’s Day and enjoyed it with your kids, mothers, wives, sisters, etc. After taking my nephew to get his driver’s license¬†that Friday, we all went out for celebratory froyo. My 5-year-old niece turned to my sister and said “Happy Mothers Day Mom!” and then turned to me and said “Happy Mothers Day Heather!” While I have not physically had children myself, I feel very protective and maternal towards my niece and nephew as well as our pup and all of my little craft projects. So I smiled really big and said “Thanks darlin!”

For my mother, I made a wall decoration that we’ve placed in the kitchen. It has one of my favorite quotes, that I think sums up our family pretty accurately. As she gave me my Cricut for my birthday, I wanted to use it to make her something she could see everyday as a reminder of:

  1. What an awesome daughter I am ūüėČ
  2. What a great family we are

We really are and it’s not to say that we haven’t had our ups and downs (and sometimes disownments) but that’s what makes our family so ridiculous and amazing. No matter the hardships, we’ve all stuck together.

In the great words of Caroline Manzo: LET ME TELL YOU-A SOMETHING ABOUT MY FAMILY! WE ARE THICK AS THIEVES.

It’s true.

Treasury Tuesday: Rose and White

Treasury Tuesday: Rose and White

161 years ago, three amazing women created the Philomathian Society at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. Today, that organization is now¬†known as “Phi Mu Fraternity for Women”. I spent four years as a collegiate member and have since gone alum after graduating. While Founders Day was actually March 4th, I wanted to celebrate today and keep the momentum going! So proud to be a member of this organization.

To lend to those less fortunate a helping hand.

To think of God as a protector and guide of us all.

To keep forever sacred the memory of those we have loved and lost.

To be to others what we would they would be to us.

To keep our lives gentle, merciful and just, Thus being true to the womanhood of love.

To walk in the way of honor, guarding the purity of our thoughts and deeds.

Being steadfast in every duty small or large.

Believing that our given word is binding.

Striving to esteem the inner man above culture, wealth or pedigree.

Being honorable, courteous, tender, Thus being true to the womanhood of honor.

To serve in the light of truth avoiding egotism, narrowness and scorn.

To give freely of our sympathies.

To reverence God as our Maker, striving to serve Him in all things.

To minister to the needy and unfortunate.

To practice day by day love, honor, truth.

Thus keeping true to the meaning, spirit and reality of Phi Mu.

So here we are, Twenty-Five

thCABA7LIX

Whew. A quarter of a century. 25. Here we are.

Do you ever look back and wish you could have a conversation with your 15-year-old self a la Jack from “30 Rock”¬†minus the whole exposed to a leaky gas-pipe thing? Every once in a while, I wonder how that conversation would go. I often imagine it would be 15-year-old Heather asking the following completely self-absorbed and selfish questions: “Did you fall in love? Are you married? Do you have any children? Are you famous? Did you move out of Maryland? Did you lose weight? Do you have an apartment? A dog? A cat? Seahorses?” Back then, I only had two things I wanted to accomplish: be famous and move out… and being a proud mama of two little seahorses because those are my favorite.¬†I can imagine, now, 25-year-old me laughing lightly, yet with a hint of sadness and saying, “Well, Heather, no. Life is a little harder than I thought back then.”

I can’t exactly pin-point my feeling about today. There is a little bit of joy, a little sadness, a little exhaustion (mostly thanks to B-my personal trainer-kicking my booty two days in a row), a full tummy of giant cupcakes from my boss, a bit hopeful for the future, a bit feisty and ready to take on the world while at the same time wanting to curl up with my baby boy, drink tea and stare out the window… needless to say, there are a lot of emotions happening right now.

The day was nice and enjoyable. I got an adorable owl mug from my co-workers, as well as a whole mess of cupcakes… which, by the way, if you go to Whole Foods, get a giant cupcake because they have a little extra surprise¬†and were DELIGHTFUL. My parents had gotten me a 31 purse and… THIS lovely little item:

Cricut-Expression

That’s right! I’m the proud Mama of a¬†Cricut! I’m SO so so so excited and can’t wait to start using it! I’m feeling much like John C. Riley and Will Ferrell in “Stepbrothers” at this time: SO MANY ACTIVITIES!¬†My parents made my little crafter heart burst. ūüôā Dad also treated us to BBQ ribs: noms!

Now that Friday is upon us, I’m feeling incredibly ready for life now. I’ve had nice chats with my co-workers and family about turning 25. And while it’s not a major milestone of a birthday (minus the fact that I get to rent a car now) it still tends to hit you that you are a quarter of a century and thus makes you reevaluate if you are accomplishing everything you want to and enjoying life to the fullest. Am I?

So far, yes. Yes I am.

I feel like after sharing with 15-year-old¬†me the hardships of life I’ve come through so far, she’d be incredibly proud of who we are today. Because life rarely goes as planned, especially when you’re so naive of the workings of the world when the plans originate. But through it all, here I am. Still standing, doing so tall and proud. Because this life is crazy and hectic…

but it’s mine.
