DIY: Vinyl Mugs

I woke up quite a bit before my alarm this morning and was feeling very energized despite the lack of fitness this weekend (talk about a huge slacker). Perhaps it was the abundance of people I got to see this weekend that made me feel super chipper. I had quite a lot of fun seeing old friends, meeting new friends; celebrating birthdays and upcoming nuptials… and of course, doing a bit of crafting! The majority of my time currently is devoted to the following three things:

  1. Work
  2. Exercise
  3. Etsy

And not always in that order (but most of the time, yes). I haven’t had the chance to just do a craft for myself or even really just sleep. I took a few days off next week to knock out an array of appointments and take the time to just breathe, it’s amazing how sometimes one can just forget to do that, huh? Now, I’m feeling incredibly exhausted and dead to the world, the coffee is just not cutting it this morning.

Anyhoo, I’ve been doing a lot of mugs for the shop and wanted to finally just make one for myself.

A few weeks ago I received a mess of permanent vinyl and have just gotten around to being able to play with it!

The other day I decided my first project was to make a decal for my new water bottle that cost me a whole gold bar. Can someone please explain to me why they are so darn expensive these days? They’re water bottles for crying out loud!

I used a silver permanant vinyl with a curly H from Cricut’s “Quarter Note” cartridge and of course, a quatrefoil… #tsm

Tested it out at the gym: perfect!

I went over to my sorority sisters place yesterday to sit and craft. It’s been a while since we’ve had time to do so! Before, we used to sit in our apartment and craft on the regular, sticking in “Legally Blonde” and filling the living room with paint fumes and the smells of warm brownies. It was nice to be able to sit, chat, craft and catch up!

The quote is one of my favorites from Vincent van Gogh:

“I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.”

I should have made the text a tad bit smaller, but I wasn’t sure how the Cricut¬†would do with cutting smaller letters. I see with the ones at the bottom that it doesn’t do too bad! Next time, I will have to keep that in mind, I’m not a total fan of how large it is, but I love it otherwise! The stars were easy to apply without any vinyl transfer, but in order to keep the text together and cohesive, I used it for that. The only issue I had was the fact that the mug wasn’t a flat surface, so the bottom text got a little wonky due to the mug’s curvature.

Either way, there are so many other ideas for the future products with vinyl! Can’t wait do some more of those!

Treasury Tuesday: Put a lid on it

Good Morning!

Today’s Treasury Tuesday holds a little place in my heart. Mason jars have made a huge comeback in the past few years as a key piece of decor or usage, especially within the crafting world. We know from past posts that I adore them, especially¬†being from the country. Who knew there would be so many different ways to use them now besides preserving fruits and veggies!IMG_5513

Last Sunday at my cousins baby shower, my Mom’s cousin gave us all a special gift. She had found my Great-Grandmother’s old canning jars¬†and gave us each one as a memento. How special is that?! She wrote up the whole history of the jars, some of the original blue Ball jars (which, I found out were blue due to a mineral they used in the sand) and some the Atlas jars with glass tops, and no one knew which jar they got until they opened their bag.

Upon opening my bag and reading¬†the history of these fantastic jars and how long they had been with our family, I found that I got received one of the original Atlas jars with the glass and clasp lid. Knowing that this was once owned by my great-grandmother, someone I never had the pleasure to meet, made my heart swell. I love learning about my heritage and always know that my family has some great stories and history to share with us. Such an amazing and special gift Dolores gave us all. I can’t wait to be able to pass this down to my children and relay the story to them some day.

Dolores, thank you so much for the kind gift! And I promise–crossing my heart many times–that I will NEVER put glitter or deface that beautiful jar. ūüėČ

Treasury Tuesday: Rose and White

Treasury Tuesday: Rose and White

161 years ago, three amazing women created the Philomathian Society at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. Today, that organization is now¬†known as “Phi Mu Fraternity for Women”. I spent four years as a collegiate member and have since gone alum after graduating. While Founders Day was actually March 4th, I wanted to celebrate today and keep the momentum going! So proud to be a member of this organization.

To lend to those less fortunate a helping hand.

To think of God as a protector and guide of us all.

To keep forever sacred the memory of those we have loved and lost.

To be to others what we would they would be to us.

To keep our lives gentle, merciful and just, Thus being true to the womanhood of love.

To walk in the way of honor, guarding the purity of our thoughts and deeds.

Being steadfast in every duty small or large.

Believing that our given word is binding.

Striving to esteem the inner man above culture, wealth or pedigree.

Being honorable, courteous, tender, Thus being true to the womanhood of honor.

To serve in the light of truth avoiding egotism, narrowness and scorn.

To give freely of our sympathies.

To reverence God as our Maker, striving to serve Him in all things.

To minister to the needy and unfortunate.

To practice day by day love, honor, truth.

Thus keeping true to the meaning, spirit and reality of Phi Mu.

DIY: Glass Etching

glassetchingbnr

I bought glass etching solution a while ago and haven’t gotten a chance to use it. Well, let me rephrase that: I’ve been super lazy and haven’t gotten around to it. Since getting the Cricut, I’ve found some ideas to use it! I was going to use it on a wine glass, but all are half painted already and sitting, waiting for completion… fail.

I had a few jars left over from a stash I bought this past summer, so I decided to make a “Moments Jar”. If you haven’t seen this already on Pinterest, it’s a fantastic idea: For all the good moments you have throughout the year, you write down on a piece of paper and place in the jar. At the end of the year, you look at all the good moments that occurred in remembrance of the positive moments. With everything going on in the world, there’s never been a more crucial moment to remember those moments, so why put them in something that means a lot to you? I thought about using my TARDIS game box, but, I think this is more personal and me.

I got a cartridge while getting two additional Cricut mats on Cricut.com this last week. I thought the H’s were super adorable and thought it would look very folksy etched on the jar… so, thus my H Moments Jar was born.
